Hi!
The Strong Women, Strange Worlds QuickReads in which I’ll be reading a piece from my favourite chapter of The Dragon of Ynys is happening this Friday, February 6th, at 12:00 noon EST (that’s 18:00 in Belgium).
This cool online event spotlighting the author voices of women and non-binary writers will take place online. Everyone can join for free, as long as you register beforehand via this Eventbrite link.Without a registration, you won’t be able to get a valid Zoom link.
With only 2 days to go, I’m really looking forward to the reading! It’ll be so much fun to hear the other authors read, hear what sort of giveaways they’re doing (there’ll be a The Dragon of Ynys audiobook giveaway too!), and interact with the listeners live in chat. I really hope to see you there!
In other news, we posted the 419th edition of Paranatellonta on February 1st: read it here.
The Paranatelonta videos have started up again as well: a new one will appear once every 3 weeks. The earlier ones came up every 2 weeks, but it’s more work than you’d think to set up a properly edited 3-minute video both in English and in Dutch, so I’ve decided to give myself a little more time in 2026.
That means the next Paranatellonta video in English will be up on February 12, 2026—subscribe here to make sure you won’t miss it, and listen to the latest one from January 22 (“Replacement”, with a dragon main character) via this link.
Thank you for your support!
Love,
Minerva
Hallo!
On February 6th, I’ll have the honour of reading for the Strong Women, Strange Worlds First Friday QuickReads! This event is accessible free on Zoom after registering via this link.
It will take place at 12:00 EST – that’s 18:00 here in Belgium.
The QuickReads are like a “book tasting” of science fiction, fantasy, and horror stories by women and non-binary writers.
Our mission is to elevate the voices of women and other underrepresented gender identity authors of science fiction, fantasy, and horror; to highlight stories featuring strong female and non-binary characters; and to share these stories with readers of all ages. – statement on the website of Strong Women, Strange Worlds
I will be reading a piece from The Dragon of Ynys, annnnd there will be a giveaway at the event. Time to mark your calendars!
LS and I start reading around 1:18:50, but if you have the time, I absolutely recommend watching the whole video. And if you want to read a background story for E.D.E. Bell’s own reading, check out this hilarious Twitter thread.
Just a quick reminder that LS Reinholt and I will be reading a fragment from “Dragon in the Cove” at the Atthis Arts Author Reading on Sunday September 11 – that’s tomorrow, or perhaps even today depending on when and where you are reading this!*
Register for free HERE to attend the event, which will take about 90 minutes, starting at 2:00 PM EDT or 8:00 PM CEST (= 20:00 for the people in and around Belgium, for example).
Aside from our fragment, there will be lots of cool authors presenting their stories the way they sound in their own mind, AND Gregory A. Wilson will be reading the intro to The Gray Assassin Book TWO: Renegade, AND there will be a special announcement at the end! Not a moment you want to miss, is it?
See you then, hopefully!
Minerva
*If you are reading this later than September 11, don’t be absolutely devastated that you missed it! Do check my blog again soon, as I will post the recorded YouTube link when it’s up.
On September 11, 2022, you can attend the first Atthis Arts Author Reading, live at 2:00 PM EDT or 8:00 PM CEST. In other words, it’s at 20:00 that Sunday evening in Belgium, the Netherlands, and the rest of the Central European timezone. And for my frequent Australian reader (hi Nala!), I’m afraid it’ll be 3:30 AM for you, but there will be a recording afterwards!
This will be the first time LS Reinholt and I are doing an author reading together and I think it will be so much fun! We’ll pick a fragment from our short story “Dragon in the Cove” from Five Minutes at Hotel Stormcove. Every author (or, in our case, author team) will have 5 minutes to read, making the whole event last 90 minutes. And there’ll be a lot you’ll want to hear: the authors include E.D.E. Bell emself, Ava Kelly, Ether Nepenthes, Gigi Ganguly, Gregory A. Wilson… I’m excited about every single name on the list, but I suggest you check the link here to find out which part of the Atthis family you’re about to meet! With 14 authors from 3 continents, you’re bound to discover some great new writing.
Just dropping a quick note about the Reading in Ferndale Library, which I talked about in my previous blog post. It’s tomorrow, at 12:00 EDT/18:00 CEST (click here to see what time this is for you).
The Zoom link is now available, so I can tell you the reading will take place on this address! And for more info, I will once again refer to the Facebook event.
See you tomorrow, if you can make it!
Edit: This event is now over, so I have removed the links.
Back in March, when I talked about donating the proceeds for The Dragon of Ynys to Ferndale Pride, I mentioned that there would be an author reading in May, co-hosted by Ferndale Library. That event is happening next Thursday, May 20!
It will, of course, be an online event – I’m still waiting impatiently for that teleportation technology for quick hops from Belgium to Ferndale, Michigan. Fortunately, we can have just as much fun online. I’ll be reading from The Dragon of Ynys, and then I’ll be answering questions from readers. You can find all the info about the event on the Facebook page: click here. The Zoom link will be found there on the day before the reading, and the event itself starts at noon Ferndale time (18:00 Belgian time – in other words, 12 EDT/18 CEST).
A quick note to say that you can find the Rainbow Space Magic reading with Elle E. Ire, Ava Kelly and me on YouTube! You can also watch the rest of the panels and readings here.
If this gets you in the mood to attend a virtual con live, you can now sign up for IQARUS, which takes place on May 8-9! This book con is named “International Queer Authors and Readers Uniting Stories” and you can see the guests listed here. (I won’t be speaking at the con myself, but I’ll definitely be there to listen!)
Next weekend, March 12-14, 2021, the second edition of Rainbow Space Magic Virtual Con is taking place!
The con is starting with a series of free workshops on Friday, March 12, and will then continue with different interesting panels and exciting readings by LGBTQIA+ authors. You can see the full schedule here!
This is the very first con I’m attending as an author! I’ll be doing a reading on Saturday, March 13, at 11 AM ET. (For my local friends: that’s 17:00 in my time zone in Belgium!)
Ava Kelly and I are sharing a reading slot to read a short fragment from each other’s dragon books: Havesskadi and The Dragon of Ynys. You may have read more about these two stories, which were written at the same time, in my blog post about our recent short story Lost in Ynys.
We look forward to having fun with each other’s texts and hope to see you there! You’ll have the possibility to send us questions after the reading.
Rainbow Space Magic also supports a number of charities, which are listed here.
