Migration anthology, the dragon of ynys

Migration release; The Dragon of Ynys out of print

Hi!

After an awesome holiday in Paris, let’s start with the happy news: Migration came out on July 24! Woohoo!

Migration Cover

Aside from the gorgeous cover, you’ll find 120 flash fiction stories with a speculative element and queer representation, one of them written by me (titled Not How We Planned It).

Buy it on Amazon US, Amazon Deutschland (and all other Amazons), iBooks, Barnes & NobleKobo – and add it on Goodreads.

I want to congratulate the winners of this flash fiction contest, and everyone who got an Honorable Mention (like my friend Ava Kelly)! Third place went to Siri Paulson, second place to Bey Deckard, and first place to Die Booth. Click on the names to read more about the winning stories.

Then… The sad news.

The Dragon of Ynys (2018)

Unfortunately, my Tiptree-longlisted novella The Dragon of Ynys will no longer be in print after July 31, 2019. Less Than Three Press is ending its activities as a publishing house. You can read their full announcement here.

I’m very sorry to see them go, as are many, readers and writers alike. LT3 was an awesome home for so many queer stories. I want to send a giant thank you to their team for giving my debut novella a chance in the world. This publishing house will always hold a special place in my heart, even when it’s gone.

Now, what does this mean?

If you still want to buy The Dragon of Ynys or any other of LT3’s ebooks, be quick, as their Book Market is closing on the 31st. You can still find the buy link here (click). As far as I know, the link will stop working after Wednesday, July 31, 2019.

You can find more information (like the blurb, reviews, etc.) about my book here.

Currently I am still considering my next step with The Dragon. I’m pretty confident that it will return to the published market eventually, but first I want to take my time looking into its options. I will, of course, make announcements on my blog and on other social media as soon as I know more.

Two covers, a Kickstarter, and more good news

Last week I said I wouldn’t blog again until I was back from holiday. At that moment, of course, everything started happening at once, so here I am after all with more news!

Let’s start with the pretties. Both the Migration anthology and Sherlock Holmes is Everywhere! have revealed their covers!

Migration cover   Sherlock Holmes is Everywhere cover

Migration can be preordered on Amazon Kindle, iBooks, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo. It will release on July 24 and contains my flash story Not How We Planned It.

The Sherlock Holmes is Everywhere! Kickstarter is launching today. The book is expected to release in October of this year, and supporting this project means supporting the Beacon Society, a scion society of the Baker Street Irregulars which provides scholarships to schools, libraries, and Sherlock Holmes groups for educational purposes.

The anthology contains the essay Chasing Words by L.S. Reinholt and me, about how we met and started writing together thanks to Sherlock Holmes. It’s a Belanger Books publication, just like Sherlock Holmes: Adventures in the Realms of Steampunk, in which our story The Adventure of the Purloined Piston Valve appeared earlier this year.

The blurb for Sherlock Holmes is Everywhere!:

What makes Sherlock Holmes so special? Why is he one of the most recognizable characters in all of literature? How do people throughout the world connect to the character? Why is Sherlock Holmes embraced by the LGBTQ+ Community? Why do people collect Sherlock Holmes memorabilia? Why do people experience Sherlock Holmes in everything from Science Fiction to Martial Arts?

Find out the answers to these questions and many more in Sherlock Holmes is Everywhere! a collection of essays on how people throughout the world embrace the great detective.

I’m excited about this book! I really look forward to reading the other writers’ essays, and the flag at the centre of the cover made me very happy.

Be sure to take a look at the Kickstarter and feel free to leave any questions you have.

L.S. Reinholt and I also got another acceptance this week! Our queer horror story The Lost will be published in The Haunted Bouncy Castle‘s upcoming Neon Horror Zine. More info will follow!

Migration anthology, Sherlock Holmes

Flash fiction and essay publication

Hi!

Time for some news about future publications!

My story Not How We Planned It was selected for publication in the Migration anthology by Queer Sci Fi. The book will contain 120 flash fiction stories that have 300 words or less, all with a speculative element and queer representation. As there were over 250 entries for the flash fiction contest this year, I’m honoured that my story was chosen to be part of the book! You can see the full list of published stories here. Note that my friends Ava Kelly and Ether Nepenthes are in there too! *high fives*

The Migration anthology will be out on July 24, 2019. On that day the contest winners will also be announced, so if you’re curious about that part, keep an eye on the Queer Sci Fi website. (But don’t be afraid to miss anything; I’ll blog about the book release as soon as I’m back from my holiday.)

And then, a first: the publication of a piece of non-fiction! I know, it’s shocking, but I promise it won’t be boring.

L.S. Reinholt and I will have an essay in the Sherlock Holmes is Everywhere! anthology from Belanger Books. It’s going to be a charity collection for The Beacon Society. In the essay, we talk about how we met thanks to Sherlock Holmes, and how the great detective shaped the way we work together. We had a lot of fun writing the essay, and we look forward to reading the stories about how Mr Holmes influenced other writers’ lives. As soon as there’s any news about the release date and where you’ll be able to buy the book, you’ll hear from me.

But first I’ll be counting down a little longer to a holiday in Paris! I hope you’ll all have a great summer full of wonderful stories.

Five Minutes at Hotel Stormcove

Five Minutes at Hotel Stormcove is out now! This book with bite-sized stories in all genres has something for everyone and lets you expand your horizons.

L.S. Reinholt and I co-wrote the fantasy short Dragon in the Cove. The anthology also contains science fiction, romance, crime, quiet stories like the one about the cat, and so much more.

So far I’ve read about a third of the book and there hasn’t been one story yet that I didn’t like! And for my writer-friends, it may be nice to know that the Atthis Arts team has been an absolute joy to work with.

Get the book on Amazon US, Amazon Deutschland, iBooks, Nook, Kobo, or another retailer of your choice that I didn’t conveniently get the link from yet 😉

Find it on Goodreads here.

Enjoy your stay at Hotel Stormcove!

“The Dragon of Ynys” on the 2018 Tiptree Long List!

You’re reading that right! To my delighted astonishment, The Dragon of Ynys made it to the Long List of the James Tiptree, Jr. Literary Award! Read the full announcement here. I recommend reading the whole list to find some intriguing additions to your to-read lists.

Congratulations to award winner Gabriela Damián Miravete and translator Adrian Demopulos, and to all the other authors on the Honor List and Long List! I feel humbled and honoured in such amazing company.

Sherlock Holmes Kickstarter!

Great news: the Kickstarter for Sherlock Holmes: Adventures in the Realms of Steampunk has launched! This will contain The Adventure of the Purloined Piston Valve, a story by L.S. Reinholt and me.

The anthology consists of two volumes: Tales of a Retro Future and Mechanical Men and Otherworldly Endeavours. Our story will be found in the latter.

I really look forward to reading all these stories that mix the atmosphere of a classic Holmes mystery with futuristic inventions, grinding gears, puffs of steam, rebellious robots and astute automatons.

However, we’ll need your help to make it happen! Please check out the Kickstarter page here for more info and to support the project. Spreading the word is also greatly appreciated!

Sherlock Holmes: Adventures in the Realms of Steampunk Banner

I can also announce another acceptance, again for a story co-written with L.S. Reinholt! It will be part of Five Minutes at Hotel Stormcove from Atthis Arts, a collection of short stories and flash fiction. Every story shows us five minutes of the events taking place at Hotel Stormcove, at any point of time, and in any genre. You can preorder this book here, including the limited hardcover edition! Release is expected in May 2019.

Sherlock Holmes, Space Opera Libretti

Acceptances!

Hi!

2019 took a good start here!

I am happy to announce that L.S. Reinholt and I will have a short story in Sherlock Holmes: Adventures in the Realms of Steampunk. This anthology from Belanger Books will consist of 2 volumes full of steampunk adventures. The Kickstarter is expected to launch later this month, so I’ll keep you all posted!

My story Stars from the Stars also got accepted for publication in Space Opera Libretti, an anthology by Brian McNett and Jennifer Lee Rossman. Expected publication in August 2019. I can’t wait to read the other funny musical stories in space!

darkling's beasts and brews

Darkling’s Beasts and Brews is now available!

My last release post of 2018! Merry Christmas!

My poem Frankenspider and my haiku have been published in Darkling’s Beasts and Brews: Poetry with a Drink on the Side! You can buy it on Amazon and add it on Goodreads. For my European friends Bookdepository may be the cheaper option to acquire it.

Fun fact: L.S. Reinholt, with whom I’m co-writing several projects, also has two poems in this!

DarklingCover-small

Welcome to the Machlelf Cemetery! Featuring your favorite graveyard host, Darkling introduces you to some of the beasts and creatures roaming around Lycan Valley and shares many of her favorite recipes and concoctions from Darkling’s Recipe Box. Includes more than 70 alcohol and non-alcohol drink recipes and corresponding poems in 7 categories: Coffee and Tea, Cocktails and Mixed Drinks, Smoothies, Milkshakes, Shots, Punch and special Bonus Clown Recipes section.

Something awesome happened last year when I first shared the good news of getting this poem and haiku accepted. I showed the haiku to my friend, artist Anneke Schat, and she surprised me with these beautiful Shodo artworks, titled “Fingernail”.

They catch the spirit of my haiku marvellously and I’m so honoured that a world-renowned artist like her finds inspiration in my work, just like I find inspiration in hers. Thank you again, Anneke!

Now let’s all raise a glass of some horror-poetry brew and enjoy the holidays! See you in 2019!

love & bubbles

Love & Bubbles is out now!

Since last Thursday, Love & Bubbles is out in the wild!! I couldn’t post this on the day itself because I was having an awesome time in London – Hamilton was great! And I even found the courage to tell the people at the Gay’s the Word bookshop that Love & Bubbles was coming out. *proud*

Anyway, now you can buy this collection of queer underwater love stories on Gumroad, Amazon.com or Amazon.de (and the other Amazons worldwide, of course). At the moment I’m typing, the paperbacks haven’t been listed on Amazon yet, but they should be up soon and they’ll be available through the same links. So if you don’t see the physical books listed yet, return to the page in a couple of days and you should be able to order your copy (shipping cost-free in many countries)!

I hope you’ll enjoy the anthology!

Remember, aside from buying the book, the best way to support projects like this is by leaving reviews on both Amazon and Goodreads, so more people will hear about its existence. Thank you!

Cover reveal: Love & Bubbles!

Hello everyone!

It’s been a while since I made a blog post (oops), but now I’ve got awesome news: the Love & Bubbles anthology is coming out this Thursday, October 18!!! It contains my story, “Summoned”, about a water demon and a merman, and what I’ve read of the other stories so far was great too!

You can still preorder it here, but for my European friends who want a physical copy it might be wise to wait until after Thursday, so you can order via Amazon and won’t have to pay high shipping costs. I’ll post the buying links next weekend, when I’m back from London to see Hamilton (the musical) 😀

The book cover was also revealed this weekend! It was designed by Kyra J. Wolff and I think it looks awesome.
